Like others I would give GateHouse no stars if that option was available. One more example of the failure and scamming of large corporations who buy out trusted local businesses. I have enjoyed having a morning paper in hand with my breakfast for decades - now that appears to be over. Is that any way to reward a loyal customer? Calls to customer service are useless. My neighbors all pay various lower rates for the same service I get. I have a current renewal bill charging $321 for 13 weeks and I see advertised subscription rates that as low as $52 for 13 weeks. The final straw is the issue so many raise: NO PAPER DELIVERY with no real response from customer service, the requirement to call every day that the paper is not received with no way to know if the promised credit is actually processed. I hate to see the decline of this once so respected publication, the loss of skilled and dedicated local journalists. Since GateHouse acquired the paper, customer service has been miserable. My comments will echo the reviews in this file. Can't your staff see through the empty, insincere verbiage? After reading these other reviews and the paper's response, I note the same pattern of abusive customer service and disingenuous PR claptrap response. Sometime soon I plan to cancel my subscription, unless I see a radical and fundamental improvement in journalism and customer service. I get much better, more complete, and far more balanced news online. The only reason why I continue to subscribe is that other people depend on the paper. Several carriers have resorted to the selfsame prank over the past few years, so the paper cannot blame a single carrier, and the fact that the paper has been alerted to this deception indicates to me that they sanction it. The paper either has no system to track carrier performance, or they connive with the way the carrier attempts to cover up a missed delivery. Unless I call the paper each time this happens, I will be charged full price. A news publication delivered a day late is worth less than the listed price. When this happens, the missing issue is usually delivered the following day along with the current issue. At least several days per month, I do not receive the paper. I regard that subscription as an implied contract to deliver the paper to my home address on a daily basis. My family and I have subscribed to this publication for over 50 years. ![]()
